Elias' First Camping Trip

We watched the weather all week to ensure it would be warm enough for Elias to camp over Memorial Day weekend. The week started out with a forecast for 60s and low 70s in Frisco, but dropped to 50s by Friday. Despite that, and confirmation there was snow scattered near the campground we were headed to, we went. Fortunately, though, it was warmer than expected. Our four season held out nicely, too, keeping E plenty warm at night. Friday night we had just enough time to set up the tent before the sun set. We dressed Elias in three onesies so he'd be warm enough to sit by the fire.

When it was time for him to go down, we topped him off with a down jacket and stocking hat to provide a little more warmth.

It was Lila's first night camping, too.

After sitting around the fire, we finally crawled into the tent. I was positive Aaron would roll on top of Elias and suffocate him with his oversized down bag, so I made sure Elias had plenty of space. I could see the headlines as I drifted off to sleep: 'Adorable baby smothered by tired daddy's big sleeping bag that he wouldn't share with tired mommy'. We packed him into a sleeping bag, surrounded him with a down blanket, and set him on top of his changing pads so he'd have sides up against him.

Turns out this was WAY overdoing it, as Aaron stated he knew the whole time. We awoke to him crying around 2 a.m. Initially we thought he may be hungry, but when I went to pick him up, I felt dampness all over his body: he had sweat through the three layers of onesies. We undressed him in the dark and he fell right back to sleep. E wasn't the only warm one. Aaron ended up undressing himself and sleeping on top of his bag. Apparently if it is 40 degrees outside, you don't need to sleep in two layers of clothing, a stocking hat, gloves, a 40 below down bag, and a four season tent. Lesson learned. Saturday morning we let Elias air himself out in the mountain breeze.

We spent most of Saturday in town, shopping and sitting at a brewery. I feel ashamed to even call this weekend a camping trip since minimal outdoor activity was done. I guess we'll ease him into it.

Elias liked eating dinner outdoors.

Aaron cooked Jiffy Pop over the fire Saturday night.

Sunday morning Aaron and Rob went for a run while Jenna, Lila, E and I hiked.

We spent the afternoon at a park in Frisco enjoying the warm weather. Elias took a nap under the shade of a tree while I read and Aaron biked. We're glad Elias likes camping as much as we do.
